Keith
and Andrew Banks plan to walk the West Highland Way
Andrew Banks is planning to walk the
95 mile West Highland Way which opened in1980 and runs from the
outskirts of Glasgow to Fort William.
Andrew has Downs Syndrome and is using the walk to raise
funds for his travel to the World Swimming Championships and to help
other members on the team. His father Keith, will accompany him on
the adventure. Andy will
complete the challenge with a smile on his face spurred on by the
thought of a big breakfast each morning and possibly a beer each
evening! The main concern is the weather, which can be very
unpleasant.
The great pleasure in walking the Way
derives from the amazing variety of landscapes on offer: from
lowlands to highlands, the bucolic splendor of the glens flanked by
great mountains, the loveliness of Loch Lomond and the wild
remoteness of Rannoch Moor. There is, too, a great association
between much of the Way and the historical past of Scotland; much of
the route pursues ancient drove roads or old military roads built in
the 18th century to help control the Jacobite clansmen.
The West Highland Way can be competed
in six to nine days, depending on experience and fittness, but is
best done at a pace to suit the individual.

Awards: Linton makes big splash in the pool
Monday,
January 25, 2010,
SWIMMER
Anita Linton conquered the clock in 2009 after finishing the year
with a handful of European records.
The
32-year-old Down's Syndrome competitor, from Lightwood, achieved the
new standards in the Masters category for swimmers aged between 25
to 34 years.
Now
Linton has been nominated by her mum Barbara in the Disability
category at The Sentinel/City of Stoke-on-Trent Sports
Personality of the Year Awards.
Barbara
revealed the stopwatch can often be her daughter's biggest rival
when competing against other swimmers who are more physically able.
"I'm
absolutely thrilled Anita managed to finish the year with five
European records – any parent would be pleased with that,"
said 75-year-old Barbara, from Wombourne.
DSISO
GB are proud to announce that the following Swimmers and team staff
have been selected for the DSISO World Championships which are to be
held in Taiwan 2010. There
is still the opportunity for 2 wild card entries if the Team Manager
deems it appropriate.
