8th European Down Syndrome Swimming Championships

8th Open Down Syndrome Swimming Championships – Albufeira, Portugal
The 8th Open Down Syndrome Swimming Championships took place in Albufeira, Portugal, with 17 countries and 103 swimmers participating. Hosted by the Portuguese Swimming Federation (FPN), the competition was conducted professionally throughout and fully in accordance with World Aquatic rules.
Record-Breaking Performances:
A total of 13 records were broken in the Mosaic group:
- Jagoda Litner (Poland): 8 records
- Ellen Stephenson (Great Britain): 4 records
- Alexandra Edwards (Great Britain): 1 record
In the T21 group, record-breaking performances included:
- Vincente Pereira (Portugal): 2 records
- Camino Martinez (Spain): 2 records
- Amalia Freeland (Great Britain): 2 records
Relay Highlights:
- Portugal men broke 3 relay records: 4×100 Freestyle, 4×100 Medley, and 4×50 Mixed Medley.
- Great Britain women set 3 world records: 4×50 Freestyle, 4×100 Freestyle, and 4×50 Medley.
Great Britain
was the winning team, with Portugal
second and Poland
third. Congratulations to all the countries.
The championships concluded with a highly competitive “Coaches/Officials/Managers” relay, generating excitement and enjoyment for everyone present.
